The Routakit SD is our baseline machine offering excellent performance in its class for cutting wood, plastic, and aluminum. Featuring 0.19in thick plates for high rigidity and strength, a stiff 4080 extrusion as the gantry, 100mm (~4in) of clearance, and a 250mm (~10in) tall industrial grade ball screw for the z-axis.
For a complete out-of-the-box solution, simply add in our optional electronics kit (includes a CNC USB MK3/4 control board and four Nema 23 175 oz stepper motors) and the Routakit SD is ready for action!
The Routakit SD is a smaller derivative of our more heavy duty Routakit HD. Its roots can be traced back to the ever popular Shapeoko 2, arguably the best light duty desktop CNC you can buy. If not for the efforts of Edward Ford (Founder of Shapeoko) and that of others we would not be where we're at now. After owning our own Shapeoko 2 and spending a lot of time modding and upgrading it for our own projects we have been inspired and motivated to push the boundaries of open source CNC machines, thus the Routakit machines were born.
If you have any questions about our machines, website, or anything CNC related please contact us and we'll be happy to get back to you.
Please read our design and build thread for both the Routakit SD and Routakit HD (named the HD and HDX respectively) at the Shapeoko forums for a look at how it all started and the journey that they took to get to where they are now.
